What happened
In 1330, a priest called to a sick man irreverently slipped a consecrated host between the pages of his breviary instead of carrying it with proper reverence.
When he opened the book, the host had dissolved into blood, staining two of the pages. Those bloodstained pages are venerated to this day at the Basilica of St. Rita in Cascia.
Where it stands
Promoted with papal indulgences; the bloodstained pages are enshrined at the Basilica of St. Rita.
Church recognition is a judgment about devotion — not a claim of scientific proof. We keep the two distinct.

The bigger picture
This case is one witness in a much longer story — the Catholic teaching that Christ is truly, substantially present in the Eucharist.
